Illawarra Sports Injury Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre: Physiotherapist in Wollongong

From Greg Pfeiffer (Our Principal Physiotherapist)

Physiotherapy is the profession of movement. It is about helping you enjoy life to the maximum by being able to move as well as possible. Over more than 30 years, I have been fortunate enough to work with many people to help them gain, regain or improve their movement. It has involved such a wide variety of circumstances and people. For example, I have worked with:

  • Stroke patients, head injured patients, amputees and patients with neurological conditions
  • Patients who have had major trauma and/or major orthopaedic surgery
  • Sports people from purely social levels to elite level athletes
  • Helping workers with injury from the workplace return to work and their lifestyle
  • People being limited by arthritic pain
  • Everyday people with sore backs or necks that interferes with their everyday activities

In each and every case, lack of normal, pain-free movement has impacted their life. My role has been to help these people get back their quality of life or to attain their maximal potential. Contact Illawarra Sports Injury Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre in Wollongong.

What We Do

Our physiotherapy services focus on helping to improve mobility and enhance wellbeing. We offer techniques that address joint mobility, muscle strength and coordination, using modalities like manual therapy, exercise and electrotherapy to manage and improve movement disorders.

We provide rehabilitation services tailored to injuries and post-operative recovery. Our approach includes structured exercise programs, manual therapy and personalised treatment plans to assist in the recovery process following surgical interventions or injuries.

We offer pain treatment services that apply therapeutic techniques to manage acute and chronic pain. Our treatments may include manual therapy, exercise sessions and various modalities aimed at alleviating pain without invasive interventions.

Our services address workplace injuries through comprehensive assessments and targeted treatment plans. We focus on rehabilitation and therapeutic interventions designed to address injuries sustained in various work environments.

We offer a range of additional services designed to support various aspects of physical health. For example, we provide braces and crutches, tailor exercise programs and undertake real-time ultrasounds.

Our health coaching focuses on guiding clients towards achieving their personal health goals. We offer support and education in areas such as nutrition, exercise and stress management, emphasising a holistic approach to health and wellness.

The Assessment Process

Physiotherapy treatment from Illawarra Sports Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre aims to help your patients:

  • Recover from injury
  • Reduce pain
  • Move better
  • Achieve maximal functional gains
  • Improve quality of life

To achieve these objectives, it is important for the physiotherapist to get to know the patient and their life circumstances to obtain a proper understanding of what contributed to their pain or injury, and what factors need to be addressed to get a successful rehabilitation outcome.

The assessment process will cover these aspects along with the physical presentation of the patient.

Treatment Plans & Programs

The Physiotherapist will work with the patient to identify the rehabilitation goals that are meaningful to the patient, and what the patient wants to achieve out of their treatment program. The physiotherapist will then devise a treatment plan based on:

  • The patient’s circumstances & presentation
  • Evidence-based care
  • The physiotherapist’s experience
  • The patient’s treatment goals

The physiotherapist will aim to keep the patient actively engaged in their treatment program through education about:

  • The injury
  • Recovery timeframes
  • What the patient can do themselves to assist their rehabilitation
  • Activity modification (where appropriate)

The physiotherapist will also discuss with the patient aspects of their lifestyle that may need to be addressed to assist with their recovery:

  • Sleep quality
  • Stress levels
  • Activity levels
  • Weight & fitness levels
  • Co-morbidities
  • Health habits / unhealthy habits

It is the belief of Illawarra Sports Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre that the best rehabilitation results are achieved when the physiotherapist and the patient work as a partnership.
