Greg Pfeiffer has over 30 years experience in the profession. Greg has worked in hospital settings, aged care, private practice, musculoskeletal and orthopaedic physiotherapy and in Occupational Rehabilitation and Return to Work roles.

Physiotherapy is the profession of movement. It is about helping you enjoy life to the maximum by being able to move as well as possible.

Greg has been fortunate enough to work with many people to help them gain, regain or improve their movement. It has involved such a wide variety of circumstances and people:

- stroke patients, head injured patients, amputees, patients with neurological conditions
- patients who have had major trauma and/or major orthopaedic surgery
- sports people from purely social levels to elite level athletes
- helping workers with injury from the workplace return to work and their lifestyle
- people being limited by arthritic pain
- everyday people with sore backs or necks that interferes with their everyday activities

MANUAL THERAPY

Manual therapy includes joint mobilisation, soft issue massage and Instument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage / Scraping. Manual Therapy is used to improve movement and reduce pain.

EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION / REHABILITATION

Exercise programs form an integral part of treatment at Illawarra Sports Injury Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre. Exercises can be prescribed to be performed at home or at your gym / exercise facility. Your excercise prescription is delieved to you using the PhysiTrack app.

Exercise-based injury rehabiltation can also be performed in the studio gym facility at the clinic.

EDUCATION / ADVICE ON LIFESTYLE MODIFICATIONS

Education is an important part of the injury rehabilitation process. You wil be provided with information about yor condition and it's prognosis.

Lifestyle factors can also impact upon injuries and painful conditions. Lifestyle factors that may need to be addressed are:
- poor sleep
- low activity levels
- high stress levels
- being overweight
- fear or movement / activity due to pain or fear of re-injury
- training loads

ELECTROTHERAPY

This includes Ultrasound, Interferential Therapy (TENS), Laser Therapy and Muscle Stimulators (Compex Units).

ACL INJURY NON-SURGERY, PREHAB AND POST-OP REHABILITATION

Evidence continues to emerge that many ACL injuries can heal without surgery. Also, many patients with a torn ACL can still regain a functional knee without the need for surgery. Illawarra Sports Injury Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre offers The Sydney ACL Group Bracing Protocol which is a non-surgery option that may be suitable for you. It involves wearing a knee brace for 12-14 weeks. The program is overseen by Dr Tom Cross, Sports Physician, in Sydney who you will need to consult. If you have a new ACL injury and would like to consider your options apart from surgery, contact Illawarra Sports Injury Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre for details.

If you do need to have ACL surgery, you can commence a prehab program before surgery to help you achieve the best outcome after surgery. The clinic offers post-operative rehabiltation using The Melbourne 2.0 Protocol

ORTHOPAEDIC REHABILITATION

If you have had a fracture, or othropaedic surgery such as a rotator cuff repair, you can complete your rehabilitation programme at Illawarra Sports Injury Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre. Treatment can involved manual therapy and exercise to help restore your maximum function.

DRY NEEDLING

Dry Needling is a treatment technique that uses acupuncture needles to treat pain and muscle tightness. It is also used as a tool to aid recovery from exercise / activity.

TAPING / STRAPPING

Treatment may include the use of Kinesio Tape or conventional strapping tape for sports injuries and some painful conditions.

BRACES AND CRUTCHES

The clinic stocks Moon Boots, Ankle Braces, Knee Braces and crutches for sale.

Other braces and items can be ordered in as required.

NORMATEC COMPRESSION GARMENTS

Does your recovery need a little boost?

The clinic has a Normatec Pulse Pro 2.0 upper and lower body garments kit.

You can book a recovery session in the clinic, or hire the kit for 1 to 3 days.

TOG GAITSCAN ASSESSMENTS

The clinic has a TOG Gaitscan Forceplate which is used to make a computer assessment of your gait. This can aid a diagnosis of your problem, and can also be used to make custom orthotics.

The forceplate can also be used to make balance assessments for people with a history of falls.

WORKPLACE INJURIES

If you are injured at work, you are imemdiately eligible for 8 Physiotherapy treatments covered under WorkCover / iCare. A GP referral is not needed. Physiotherapy treatment is appropriate for the management of work-related injuries including:

- neck and back pain
- sprains and strains
- "overuse" injuries / Tennis elbow
- carpal tunnel

PEAK Programme for Osteoarthritic Knees

The Physiotherapy Exercise and Activity for Knee osteoarthritis is a programme of education and exercise developed by the University of Melbourne tp help with the pain of arthritc knees. The aim is to reduce your pain and improve your mobility. The PEAK Programme uses home-based exercises to strengthen your leg and support your knee.
